Early mornings, beautiful weather and soft saddles

Yesterday (Sunday)

The day started with Jim Arkell going for an early morning swim at 05.30 – far too jolly (and cold) at that time!

Our sunny morning turned into a beautiful day as we cut across a mixture of coastal paths and green lanes. One of the highlights of the day was General Arthur Denaro, who woke up briefly at lunch time. We stopped for an enjoyable hour and half lunch, which was good for both the horses and the riders.

To aid comfort in the saddle on the long rides, Professor Richard Holmes has been making use of a device called a ‘seat saver’, which has worked a dream in helping fend off the strains often associated with extended time on horseback.

The ride continues to go well and we have high hopes for tomorrow...

Only James Arkell would go swimming at 5.30 in the morning in cold, cold water!

I went to Dale Primary School (some time ago) and my only distinguishing effort was winning the apple bobbing competition at the school sports day.
